Of the Snake’s Gratitude [pl. O wężowej wdzięczności] …or a story showing that even royal pride and impunity can be met with a just punishment if the subjects include people with a pure heart… Long, long ago, or maybe not so long ago… Far, far away, or maybe quite near there lived Bartek. He took care of the Duck’s broken wing, thus establishing a friendship between them. One day when he returns home, he sees that the house was taken over by strangers, the Duck is tied up and the Cook intends to turn her into the main dish for the King. Earlier, Bartek rescues the Snake King from a spot of bother, and he gives Bartek’s flute magical powers. The powers of the flute release the Duck, and the King’s entourage is met with a well-deserved punishment. Finally, the king’s subjects decide to give the crown to Bartek, and the Snake King turns the Duck into a Princess…
