Of Dogs and Cats [pl. O psach i kotach] …or a story showing that breaking the law for one’s own benefit always leads to chaos and deep divisions and that the saying “to live like a dog with a cat” did not come from nowhere… Long, long ago, or maybe not so long ago…. Far, far away, or maybe quite near … in the well-known city of Kraków, dogs, cats, mice, and even people live together in great friendship. But one day, because of a dog called Thuggy and a cat called Gryzelda an unwritten law stipulating who gets what if something drops from a stall on the ground is violated. And so, a code is drawn up. It is supposed to apply to everybody. The animals entrust the sealed code to the mice for safekeeping. However, very soon everyone begins to interpret its provisions in one’s favour and in the end everybody starts bickering with everybody else. As a result, cat owners move to one part of the city, dog owners to another, and since nobody wants the mice, they hide in their holes…
