Portrait of an Artist – in production

Author’s animated film, based on a screenplay by Paweł Prewencki, has many characteristics of a comedy with elements of satire and self-irony. The film’s plot, inspired by the author’s personal experiences, takes place in a seaside town, on the promenade, between 1999 and 2025. A street artist earns his living by drawing, as he himself says, ‘funny’ portraits of holidaymakers. In his improvised outdoor studio, a gallery of distinctive characters passes by. They look, ask questions, joke and judge. Only some of them decide to order a portrait. Those who are satisfied pay and leave, while those who are dissatisfied criticise, refuse to pay and take the work away. The artist collects all the rejected drawings in a folder, which swells over time. Years pass. The artist’s appearance, surroundings and tourist accessories change. The artist also changes his style. At the climax of the story, he is replaced by a robot with AI functionality. The portraits, finally in high demand among tourists, are of course in the style of the Artist, who is forced to close his business. The film will be made using the technique of pencil animation on paper and 2D computer animation, while maintaining the sketchy, original character.
