On a Princess Turned into a Frog

In a certain kingdom the Old King resolved to give his crown to one of his three sons. As he could not decide on the successor he asked the senators for advice. They suggested marrying the Princes off and passing the throne to the one with the best wife. Of course, each Senator had in mind his own daughter. There followed a mighty row. The King asked the Astrologer for advice. He ordered the Princes to shoot from a bow and seek their wives wherever the arrow landed. The arrow shot by the Young Prince fell in the swamps, next to a Frog. To the astonishment of the Prince, the Frog said that she was a spell-bound princess. The Prince took her to the palace. Then the candidates for the wives had to undergo three trials: they had to weave a rug, prepare a dish of dumplings and present themselves to the Old King in ball gowns. The Young Prince was certain that his fiancée would not succeed in getting through these trials, but the Fairy came to the assistance of the Frog.
